  Ciarán Bryce, who is currently an Assistant Professor working on object-oriented systems and security at the University of Geneva, is contributing with a series of exclusive articles on Research and Development.

Ciarán Bryce is Assistant Professor working on object-oriented systems and security at the University of Geneva. He obtained a computer science degree at Trinity College Dublin in 1991 and a PhD from the University of Rennes in 1994, while at INRIA. From 1994 to 1997 he worked as a researcher at the GMD (German National Research Center for Information Science) near Bonn, in the area of computer security. He became a senior researcher at Geneva University in 1997, and is an assistant Professor there since 2001. He did a sabbatical with Sun Microsystems Laboratories in California from October 2002 to March 2003, where he worked on resource management issues for Java platforms. His research interests include computer security, as well as security and programming models for the Internet and autonomous environments, and has worked on several EU projects that deal with these themes. He gives courses in Geneva on software engineering and object-oriented programming and systems.
